Dr Sarah Karabus

Paediatrician & Paediatric Allergologist

Dr Karabus graduated from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1999. She worked in paediatrics in the United Kingdom and passed the membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics in 2004. She returned to Cape Town to specialise as a Paediatrician at the Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital.

Thereafter, she completed further sub-specialist postgraduate training in Allergology in the Division of Allergy and Asthma at UCT, obtaining the Diploma of Allergology in 2008.

She is registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa as a sub-specialist paediatric allergologist.

She has published several allergy and non-allergy related articles in accredited medical journals presents regularly at national and international allergy conferences and has contributed to a number of chapters in the Allergy Society of South Africa Handbook of Allergy.

Dr Karabus also maintains the position of consultant and senior lecturer In Allergology in the Department of Allergy and Asthma at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital and UCT.

Dr Karabus serves on the executive committee of the Allergy Society of South Africa and is co-director of the Allergy Foundation of South Africa. She is a member of various organisations including the Allergy Society of South Africa, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and the Canadian Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. She serves on the editorial board of the Current Allergy and Clinical Immunology journal as well as the European Medical Journal, Allergy and Immunology section.
